Justin Key, the 2008 District 2 International Speech contest winner, passed away the week of December 14, 2009 due to a blood clot in his lungs. District 2 mourns his passing as we miss our friend. Justin had a special quality about him and displayed excellence in all that he did. He showed remarkable learning ability. His club, Bigfoot, watched him fight his way through a difficult icebreaker, all the way to becoming District Speech Champion less than a year later. But Justin was much more than contests and trophies. He brought a sense of humor, caring, and helping everyone in his club. His Table Topics were legendary. We are blessed to be one of the many outlets that Justin chose to devote time and attention to and we are all better for it. This Fall, we were missing Justin but wishing him the best as he attended the Darden School of Business in Virginia. Here is a link to their announcement of his passing.
The photos are Justin with the Johnny Carver trophy; Justin with his parents, Brian and Susan Key; and Justin being presented the Johnny Carver trophy by Michael Sun, LGET and Sherry Tuckett, District Governor. Justin always joked about trying to carry that huge trophy on the bus as he commuted to work in downtown Seattle, but he was deservedly proud of his accomplishment and the opportunity to compete at the Region 1 contest later that year (click here to see a YouTube video of that performance).
On Sunday, December 20th there was a memorial service at 2:00pm at Crossroads Bible Church in Bellevue.
