District 2 Galaxy Rising Conference planning is in full swing and we have a few open roles to fill to make sure this event is as star studded as our keynote speakers: Stefano McGhee and Celeste Mergens!  This will truly be an out of this world conference and I’m so excited to see you all in person on May the Fourth.

Conference Education Session Speaker – Do you desire to be a conference speaker? Here’s your chance to deliver an engaging 50-minute education workshop session at our District 2 Conference on May 4, 2024.  DEADLINE PASSED – Questions? Contact Education Committee Chair, Rebecca Murray

District Contest Chair – As contest chair, you are responsible for coordinating the contest budget, planning for your room and audio setup, conducting a pre- and post-contest publicity program, and ensuring that all bills for the event are promptly paid.

You must also make sure each speaker is eligible to compete and is familiar with the contest rules, that audiovisual equipment is working, that the chief judge, voting judges, timers, and counters are briefed on their duties, that ballots are counted carefully, and that awards are presented to the winners in a ceremony that will make them proud.

Logistics Manager – Serves as the liaison for the district in dealings with the venue, all vendors, and speakers. This chair works closely with the committee to make planning decisions and is responsible for communicating all meeting specifications to the venue. Meeting specifications will include:

  • Meeting room setup
  • Audio visual equipment needs
  • Meal function details
  • Program/session(s) details and final meeting agenda
  • Accommodations
  • Additional supplies

This role could be split into two and shared as a Logistics and Technology Manager.

Recognition and Awards Coordinator – Coordinates all awards and volunteer recognition at the conference.  Including “of the year”, Distinguished clubs, DTM awards, Triple Crown, Spark Plug and Rising Star awards and certificates.  Oversees the distribution of volunteer gifts.  Manages the distribution of raffle prizes to winners.

Volunteer Coordinator – Coordinates all volunteer efforts to ensure that proper crowd control is efficiently managed throughout the event and the safety of the attendees remains a top priority. This important chair will identify necessary volunteer roles, recruit, and train skilled individuals, and supervise the efforts of all volunteers during the event. It is important that the Volunteer Coordinator also serves as the safety and security officer for the meeting. They will be responsible for maintaining a safe physical space for all attendees. Ideally this chair has strong leadership skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

Day of Event Volunteer – If you are planning to attend the district conference or the speech contest and awards ceremony, we encourage you to volunteer for a shift during the day.  It takes a village to run the district conference and we need registration volunteers, contest officials, setup/teardown team members, and more!

Donate goods or services – Do you own a business or have a hobby skill you could donate to our event?  Are you an author and interested in donating a signed copy of your latest book?  Are you a photographer or videographer and are willing to use your skills at the venue?  Grateful to extend our warmest thanks for any prizes or skills you are willing to share.

If you want to attend, buy your tickets here!  If you are interested in any of the positions above, please fill out this form and we will be in touch shortly.

Thank you for your service to District 2.
